When I was thinking about why I found the first chapter weird, I think it's because I wasn't really clear on the situation of the characters at the time. Sometimes they show you how the hero was before they became all powerful, and this is what I thought happened in the first chapter with Kiyoshi and the demon, I thought it was his first exorcism. Then I thought a time skip happened and from there he was this 'powerful' exorcist and the story continues from there. I think clarity is important and though I only read 2 chapters it is a thing that really sticks in my craw.
That's a really good point. I was also thrown off by the immediate immersion, mainly because I'm still not clear on how afraid Kiyoshi actually is, or if that's all an act. I'm fairly sure this was his first official exorcism, but then I don't understand in CH2 how he is so capable all of a sudden. So yeah... clarity is not great right now. But for the sake of the humor and the character design, I'll press on. And I can keep you posted on if/when things clear up lol.
Unsurprisingly, there was another demon-based (well, yokai-based) story kicking off at the same time called Yokai Buster Murakami that has a very similar vibe. In case you want more of the trope you're sick of!
